If you've been a gamer for awhile, chances are you've played a Legend of Zelda game and chances also are that you feel quite strongly about one of them. Breath of the Wild is mine.
Breath of the Wild wasn't my first Zelda game. My first was actually Ocarina of Time which I played on my 2DS XL Christmas of 2017. I really enjoyed it, but it didn't feel life-changing like BOTW.
I got a switch and BOTW in early 2019. I didn't know too much about it, just that people loved it. I remember first opening the game, running into a bokoblin, getting scared, and leaving the game untouched for months (lol). I decided I wanted to try again and this time, I became instantly hooked (and stopped being a weenie).
I wish I could properly convey how this game makes me feel. You know how people who enjoy ASMR describe how it makes them feel? That is this game for me. It makes me cry, it makes me clap out of excitement, it gives me goosebumps, it makes me emotional, etc. When I need to escape or when I need to feel better, I hop into Hyrule and instantly feel zen.
Breath of the Wild is the perfect game to me. It's cozy, but there's still some challenge. It has beautiful music. The art style is unique and lovely. The characters are all likable. Everywhere you go, there's a pretty view. Whether you're searching for koroks, cooking up new recipes, defeating guardians, snow-bowling, or whatever else, it's always a fun time.
Every character and NPC is interesting! I always enjoy running into Kass; his music is so beautiful and comforting. Beedle brings a smile to my face. He's silly and eccentric. Sidon is just a cutie. And then there's other smaller characters, like the flower lady, the Gerudo "lady", the kids in Kariko Village, and so many more!!
My favorite place in the game is Rito Village. I think the music there is the main reason. I don't think I could actually live there; especially with pets. But every inch of that place has a beautiful view. You're near huge trees, wildlife, and the mountains! The seclusion feels safe. The villagers are kind. I also really adore Tarrey Town (which is the best quest, by the way).
I don't speak eloquently and my writing isn't lovely or cohesive, but I still need to share my love for this game. For years I have searched for another game that compares; whether that's in how it plays or how it makes me feel, but I have never found it. I have plenty of games I love, but none are nearly as special and dear to my heart as this one.
